On this page

For OXXO, the small-format store chain, we at WolfSellers built a marketplace for its internal community of hundreds of thousands of users, using a dropship model. We set it up on the cloud version of Adobe Commerce (formerly Magento), a PCI security-certified infrastructure.

Project overview

Item Detail
Client OXXO
Industry Convenience retail, with small-format stores
Market Mexico, for OXXO's internal community
Project type Internal employee marketplace using a dropship model
Platform Adobe Commerce (formerly Magento) on Adobe's cloud
What WolfSellers did Built the marketplace
Users Hundreds of thousands, from OXXO's internal community

The challenge

OXXO wanted to offer its internal community a site with benefits: products and brands from different suppliers in one place. That community numbers hundreds of thousands of users, so the platform had to be scalable and robust, and meet the security that card payments require (PCI).

The solution

Dropship model

In a dropship model, the site virtually brings together inventory from different suppliers, with no physical stock. When someone buys, the supplier itself delivers the product.

Infrastructure on Adobe Commerce's cloud

We set up the marketplace on Adobe Commerce's cloud: a PCI security-certified infrastructure, scalable and robust enough for OXXO's requirements.

Results

  • One site for the internal community: the marketplace brought together products from different suppliers for a community of hundreds of thousands of users.
  • No inventory of its own: storage and delivery were handled by each supplier.
  • Planned growth: when we published this case study, the plan was to add more products and services as the marketplace grew.

What applies to other internal marketplaces

  • Dropship to avoid carrying inventory. The marketplace sells supplier products without keeping them in a warehouse.
  • Security starts with the infrastructure. If the site takes card payments, the platform has to meet PCI from the start.
  • Scale from day one. An internal site also needs a scalable platform when the community numbers hundreds of thousands of users.
